LBS Round 2: Alajuela hands first loss to Siquirres

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LBS. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Siquirres at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Alajuela 72-69. 26 personal fouls committed by Siquirres helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Esteban Cordero (-1) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points. Josephe Delgado (-95) contributed with 11 points for the winners. Jorge Villegas replied with 17 points for Siquirres. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Alajuela are looking forward to face Perez Zeledon in the next round. Siquirres will play against Heredia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Escazu played at the court of Asobasca. Escazu smashed Asobasca 120-44. The former international forward David Shedden (197-95) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Daniel Shedden chipped in 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Joaquin Hernandez (-99) responded with 2 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Escazu will play against Siquirres in the next round. Asobasca will play against ARBA in San Jose to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. ARBA played at the court of Perez Zeledon. ARBA smashed Perez Zeledon 95-44 on Thursday. Isaac Conejo notched 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Even 6 points and 10 rebounds by Steven Granados did not help to save the game for Perez Zeledon. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ARBA will meet at home Asobasca in the next round where they are favorite. Perez Zeledon will play against Alajuela and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 2 Alajuela was beaten by Heredia on the road 69-63.



Asobasca - Escazu 44-120

The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Escazu played at the court of Asobasca. Escazu smashed Asobasca 120-44. Escazu dominated down low during the game scoring 94 of its points in the paint compared to Asobasca's 24. Escazu forced 29 Asobasca turnovers and outrebounded them 66-37 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international forward David Shedden (197-95) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Daniel Shedden (190-96, college: MSUB) chipped in 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Five Escazu players scored in double figures. Joaquin Hernandez (-99) responded with 2 points and 8 rebounds and Eduardo Murillo (-95) scored 3 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Escazu will play against Siquirres in the next round. Asobasca will play against ARBA in San Jose to get more than just one victory in their record.

Perez Zeledon - ARBA 44-95

The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. ARBA played at the court of Perez Zeledon. ARBA smashed Perez Zeledon 95-44 on Thursday. ARBA dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Perez Zeledon's 22 and had 22 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Perez Zeledon only scored four points from the stripe. ARBA forced 26 Perez Zeledon turnovers and outrebounded them 61-46 including a 46-33 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international point guard Isaac Conejo (182-94) notched 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and power forward Mario-Jose Gonzalez (-98) supported him with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four ARBA players scored in double figures. Even 6 points and 10 rebounds by Steven Granados did not help to save the game for Perez Zeledon. Ruben Fernandez added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. There was a small surprise when Heredia beat at home Alajuela 69-63 on Thursday. Panamanian Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Henry Forester (182-91) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Even 14 points by Lathrell Wallace (-1) did not help to save the game for Alajuela. Alonso Mora (-2) added 6 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Heredia will meet at home Siquirres in the next round. Alajuela will play against Perez Zeledon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
